Lead Mobile Engineer - contract - outside IR35

Job Summary
Lead a team of engineers and drive strategy for mobile applications across platforms by proposing state-of-the-art architectures and monitoring market trends. Oversee development, deployment, and maintenance of apps while championing quality through robust CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and agile methodologies. Partner with product, design, and backend teams to scope features, ensure seamless API integration, and translate technical trade-offs to client stakeholders. Build best practices in coding, security, and performance, and lead initiatives around mobile technology advocacy. Requires on-site London presence three days per week.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience (10+ years) in mobile engineering
- At least 3 years in a leadership role
- Strong technical expertise in native iOS (Swift) and/or Android (Kotlin) development
- Experience leading teams of mobile engineers
- Ideally in a high-growth or consumer-facing company
- Deep understanding of mobile architecture, design patterns (MVVM, MVI, etc.), and platform-specific guidelines
- Track record of delivering and scaling complex mobile apps with millions of users
- Excellent communication (in English) and strategic thinking skills
- Be able to collaborate with backend and web teams to ensure seamless API integration and consistent user experience
- Please note, this role requires you to be on-site in London 3 days a week

- Champion a quality-driven approach, establishing robust CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and app stability metrics
- Ensure timely delivery of high-quality software through agile methodologies
- Partner with Product Management and Design to scope features and set technical direction
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical client stakeholders
- Deep knowledge of REST / GraphQL
- Stay current with industry trends and assess emerging technologies for future mobile strategy
- Drive internal and client initiatives around mobile: talks, workshops, etc.
- Experience working in an AI-First Development environment or utilizing AI tools to enhance engineering robustness and efficiency
- Experience with cross-platform frameworks (e.g., React Native, Flutter, KMP/CMP)
- Experience working in DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and app store release management
- Background in performance tuning, mobile analytics, and A/B testing
- Having experience with more than one framework
- Willingness to learn about the rest of the frameworks
- Deep knowledge of one framework and a strong willingness to learn others
