Job Summary
Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist for UPMC’s Automated Testing Laboratory (Gas Lab) in Pittsburgh, PA. Full-time night shift with rotating holiday responsibilities. Responsible for supervisory duties (Act as a supervisor designate), in-charge duties, problem evaluation, and communication with Laboratory Supervisor/Manager/Director. Performs all duties of a Medical Technologist; ensures instrument maintenance and function checks, troubleshooting, and accurate documentation of QC/QA data; participates in proficiency testing and quality assurance indicators; assists with staff scheduling; maintains confidentiality and professionalism; represents the Laboratory on hospital committees; adheres to safety, attendance, compliance, and policy requirements. Qualifications include a Bachelor of Science degree and MLS program completion or a relevant major with ASCP/categorical/MLT certification, plus three years of MLS experience (two in the host lab preferred). ASCP or equivalent certification preferred; histocompatibility technologist certification preferred for HLA lab; Act 34; UPMC is an equal opportunity employer.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of an accredited Medical Lab Scientist program, OR
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP or equivalent categorical or MLT certification, OR
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory.
- Three years' experience as a Medical Lab Scientist required, including two years' experience in the host laboratory preferred.
