Job Summary
Conduct consulting-level power uprate work for nuclear clients, including interface with project teams, development of engineering proposals, and resource management. Review calculations for heat balances, equipment sizing, and vendor bids to support technical recommendations and client reviews. Lead junior staff and perform independent technical reviews of calculations, drawings, and task reports while attending site walkdowns. Apply mechanical engineering principles to optimize turbine, generator, and heat exchanger systems for power output increases.
Required Qualifications
- BSME from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program
- Strong academic background
- Interest in thermodynamics
- Interest in heat transfer
- Interest in fluid mechanics
- 10+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry
- Experience with nuclear power uprates
- Experience with turbine retrofit projects
- Experience and practical knowledge in Power Uprates (EPU/SPU/MUR)
- Experience and practical knowledge in Power Urate pinch point assessments
- Experience and practical knowledge in task reports
- Experience and practical knowledge in Turbine / Generator / AVR / Exciter Refurbishments
- Experience and practical knowledge in Heat Exchanger Replacement (FWH/MSR/TFP)
- Experience and practical knowledge in Isophase Bus Duct
- Experience and practical knowledge in Transformer/Switchyard
- Experience and practical knowledge in NSSS Systems
- Experience and practical knowledge in Licensing Application
- Excellent technical report writing skills
- Knowledge of the practical application of mechanical engineering and technology
- Knowledge of applying systems, principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to a project design
- Strong interest in numerical computations
- Strong interest in problem solving
- Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations that apply to mechanical engineering design of nuclear power plants
- Proficiency with MS Office applications
- Excellent written communication skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Willingness or ability to lead others who use modern tools
- Ability to set expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows
- Ability to direct automation and process-improvement work
- Ability to oversee engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks

- MSME from an ABET accredited program
- PE License
- AI & Automation at Sargent & Lundy
- Experience leading others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs
- Experience directing automation and process-improvement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation
- Experience guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked
- Experience overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs
- Additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows
