Job Summary
Develop and lead licensing basis system and component evaluations for nuclear power uprate projects, preparing and reviewing calculations for heat balances, power train pumps, and plant hazards. Perform equipment sizing, optimization evaluation, and selection to support client recommendations, while interfacing with project teams to present technical discussions and status updates. Lead and mentor junior engineering staff on power plant engineering technical tasks, conducting independent reviews of work including calculations and drawing preparation. Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope and ensure client satisfaction, developing engineering proposals and cost estimates in response to client needs. This role requires a BSME and 10+ years of nuclear power industry experience, with a hybrid schedule of three in-office days per week.
Required Qualifications
- BSME from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program
- Strong academic background
- Interest in thermodynamics
- Interest in heat transfer
- Interest in fluid mechanics
- 10 or more years of experience in the nuclear power industry
- Experience with nuclear power uprates
- Experience with turbine retrofit projects
- Experience with Balance of plant system and component evaluations
- Experience with Pinch point assessments
- Experience with task reports
- Experience with Heat balance
- Experience with Power train pumps
- Experience with heat exchangers
- Experience with condenser/heat sink
- Experience with Circulating Water
- Experience with Ultimate Heat Sinks
- Excellent technical report writing skills
- Knowledge of the practical application of mechanical engineering and technology
- Knowledge of applying systems, principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to a project design
- Strong interest in numerical computations
- Strong interest in problem solving
- Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations that apply to mechanical engineering design of nuclear power plants
- Proficiency with MS Office applications
- Excellent written communication skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- In-office work 3 days per week
- Willingness or ability to lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI
- Ability to direct automation and process-improvement work
- Ability to oversee engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks
- Ability to review automated outputs

- Experience leading others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs
- Experience directing automation and process-improvement work
- Experience with how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation
- Experience with guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked
- Experience overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks
- Experience reviewing automated outputs
- Additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows
