Job Summary
Lead Mechanical Design Engineer responsible for leading highly complex mechanical hardware designs for customer or innovation projects, managing a small team of design engineers, guiding design reviews, and ensuring alignment with specifications and milestones. You will define mechanical/thermal architectures with system architects, assemble prototypes, verify form/fit/function, coordinate supplier/manufacturer inputs, and communicate technical aspects to stakeholders. The role involves mentoring engineers, leading cross-functional design reviews, and developing innovative, potentially patentable mechanical solutions for data-center liquid-cooling systems and related server hardware, with regular collaboration across global teams and travel up to 20%. Education includes a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; 8+ years of mechanical design/verification experience; proficiency in 3D CAD, FEA, tolerancing, DFM, manufacturing principles, and stage-gate product development. Onsite in Claremont, NH with relocation assistance offered.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- 8+ years experience in mechanical design and/or verification
- Experience leading mechanical design projects and supervising engineers
- Proficiency in 3D CAD and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Knowledge of tolerances, manufacturing principles, DFM, serviceability
- Experience releasing products into production
- Ability to mentor less experienced engineers
- Ability to work in stage-gate processes (PLCQ)
- Strong communication with internal/external customers
- Leadership capabilities and cross-functional collaboration
