Lead Mechanic - BCycle Santa Cruz

Job Summary
Manage the overall health of the e-bike fleet by assembling, maintaining, and repairing bicycles for the bike share system. Lead a team of mechanics, provide training, and conduct spot inspections to ensure service levels are met. Perform in-field repairs and inspections while riding a bicycle, maintaining accurate work orders and communicating equipment locations to the Operations Manager. Analyze inventory trends to forecast parts purchases, manage tool inventory, and contribute to creating standard operating procedures. Conduct monthly safety checks and complete annual refurbishments, adapting to changes in the work environment and supporting corporate EEO goals.
Required Qualifications
- Evening and Weekend availability required
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
- Bicycle mechanic experience required, hands-on, technical experience necessary
- Ability to manage bicycle repair schedule, oversee, and train others
- Ability to manage a repair schedule and inventory
- Certification from a recognized bicycle program or equivalent experience
- Proven technical and mechanical aptitude, innovation, and critical thinking
- Strong leadership, communications and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate a team to perform effectively, efficiently, safely while finding joy and meaning in the work
- Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands, and deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events
- Organized thinkers, with the ability to self-direct under a high-pressure environment with changing deadlines
- A strong sense of safety for everyday tasks

- Requires the ability to regularly lift objects up to 65 lbs. and carry objects of this weight for distances up to 150 feet
- Requires the ability to perform work while standing for prolonged periods of time
- Requires working and riding a bicycle outdoors in various temperatures including rain, cold and heat conditions
- Comfortable with working in busy outdoor urban environments
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with company and department policy
- This is a full-time position expected to work 32 hours per week (4 days per week, 8 hours per day). Some hours outside of this, including evenings and weekends, may be required.
- This role requires the ability to speak clearly so listeners can understand, understand the speech of another person, see details of objects that are less than a few feet away, stand or sit for several hours straight at a time
