Job Summary
Operate mammography imaging equipment to produce radiographs, selecting proper technical factors for individual patients and transporting them as needed. Evaluate image quality and technical accuracy, explain difficult procedures to staff, and maintain quality control standards for the department. Coordinate work assignments, manage patient flow, and assist the radiologist with imaging while overseeing purchasing activities and stock levels. Plan and evaluate staffing within budget parameters, recommend equipment modifications, and participate in regulatory compliance and breast cancer awareness initiatives. Maintain adequate records and ensure all competencies meet Joint Commission and CMS requirements.
Required Qualifications
- BLS Certification following American Heart Association guidelines
- CRT certification
- AART certification
- Mammography Certification
- Registration with the State of California
- State of California Fluoroscopy Permit
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Able to organize and maintain good follow-up
- Good communication skills
- All required vaccinations
- Medical and religious exemptions (where applicable)
- E-Verify participation acknowledgment
- Adherence to Corporate Compliance Code of Conduct
- Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served
- Ability to assess data reflective of patients' status and interpret relative to age-specific needs
- Assistance with Radiologist imaging procedures
- Coordination of area purchasing activities and stock levels
- Coordination of Breast Cancer month activities
- Coordination of preparation for regulatory compliance activities in the mammography department
- Knowledge of PACS and mammography reporting system
- Ability to evaluate accuracy and technical quality of images
- Ability to demonstrate and explain difficult or new techniques and procedures to technical staff
- Delegation of responsibilities to designated staff members
- Coordination of work assignments and requests for imaging services
- Technical competence to perform all department functions from clerical through technical
- Technical competence to perform in a multi-modality department
- Maintenance of adequate records
- Meeting expectations on time for all competencies, license, certifications and education requirements
- Maintenance of mammography services in accordance with hospital, state, local and federal standards
- Maintenance of patient flow and coordination of other imaging procedures
- Maintenance of quality control for designated area
- Specific instruction in the training of ancillary personnel
- Operation of imaging equipment to produce radiographs

- Participation in hospital-wide quality assurance program
- Participation in On-Call assignments and work schedule changes
- Proper computer skills and working knowledge of patient orders, status changes, patient charges, profiles and ability to transmit electronic medical record
- Planning and evaluation of staffing for the area
- Awareness of budget parameters
- Practice of sterile technique and use of universal precautions
- Production of images under difficult or special conditions
- Provision of radiation protection for self and patient
- Responsibility for delegated areas of authority in the performance of routine or special procedures
- Transportation and positioning of patients
- Willingness to perform other duties and innovations as assigned
- Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, reaching above shoulders, sitting, walking inclines and declines, standing, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive hand motions
- Close vision and the ability to adjust focus
- Ability to pull, lift, transfer, or push a patient side to side, to a sitting position, to a standing position, or laterally
- Demonstration of a pull lift of 50 pounds from the floor
- Category 3 exposure to blood/body fluids
