Lead Mammographer

Job Summary
Coordinate daily workflow and schedule for the department while managing call-offs, vacations, and patient volumes. Perform advanced imaging procedures including mammograms, ultrasound, biopsies, and bone density scans, while overseeing equipment maintenance and quality control tests. Serve as a mentor to staff, lead orientation for new hires, and assist in recruitment and performance reviews. Monitor supply utilization and restocking needs. Administer PO and IV contrast per physician orders and assess patients for risk factors. Demonstrate proper technique in venipuncture and power injector use. Resolve conflicts and sensitive situations using system-promoted leadership tools. Offer remediation to Mammographers when necessary. Maintain active mammography credits and ensure compliance with regulations.
Required Qualifications
- 3 years of clinical experience as a Registered Mammography Technologist
- ARRT M Certificate
- Breast Sonography and/or Bone Densitometry certification required within 12 months of hire
- Bone Densitometry certification can be via American Registry Radiologic Technologists or International Society for Clinical Densitometry
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- Act 34
- Advanced skills and competency required to fulfill duties and responsibilities of invasive breast imaging procedures, breast sonography, and/or bone densitometry
- Comprehensive knowledge of sterile techniques
- Maintain active 15 mammography credits every 3 years as defined by the Mammography Quality Standard Act
- Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patients in sensitive situations explaining procedures, providing instruction, and providing comfort and support
- Analytical abilities necessary to operate complex equipment, optimize image quality, and minimize patient exposure to ionizing radiation
- Must demonstrate proper technique in venipuncture and proper use of power injectors
- May be required to administer PO and IV contrast per physician orders/department policy and assess patients for potential risk factors prior to contrast administration
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
