Job Summary

Plan and execute repair, maintenance, and construction projects at VOALA sites, leading facility maintenance staff while directing work, overseeing performance, and providing training. Perform electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry repairs; conduct regular inspections of apartment complexes; and prioritize maintenance actions based on routine and urgent needs. Maintain work orders, supply receipts, and project records. Coordinate with vendors, program participants, and tenants as applicable. This role requires on-site daily attendance and the ability to work flexible hours while managing interactions with difficult clients.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
  • Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflicts dealing with difficult, uncooperative, and potentially aggressive clients as VOALA serves the neediest of the needy in our programs which may include clients with homelessness, mental-illness, substance abuse, recently released from incarceration and other challenges
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in facilities maintenance or construction, with proven skill in a construction specialty (plumbing, electrical, masonry, carpentry, HVAC, for example)
  • Experience leading a team of maintenance or construction workers

Desired Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Formal training in a Construction Trade specialty (plumbing, electrical, masonry, carpentry, HVAC, etc.)
  • Current California driver's license and clean driving record
