Job Summary
Lead Machinist role on swing shift at RTCA, onsite in Chatsworth, CA. Acts as primary point of contact for machinists and shop-floor departments, coordinating daily production activities, mentoring machinists/operators, ensuring quality standards, and enabling seamless communication with Engineering, Programming, Quality, and Production Management. May oversee multiple machining disciplines (CNC milling/turning, Swiss, manual machining, EDM, grinding, honing, deburr, assembly) depending on division. Hands-on technical leadership with a focus on collaboration, efficiency, and continuous improvement. Responsibilities include overseeing setup, operation, and troubleshooting of multi-axis mills/turning equipment (3-, 4-, 5-axis; may include Swiss/EDM/manual), interpreting part prints with Engineering/Programming, ensuring parts meet print tolerances, supporting ERP-based production reporting, maintaining shop inventory, upholding AS9100/ISO 9001, maintaining clean and safe work areas, and driving process improvements. Requires strong leadership, mentorship, and ability to communicate across departments; may participate in shift handoffs and tiered production goals. Certification or vocational training in machining technology (certificate or equivalent) is noted, and a working knowledge of ERP systems (Global Shop or JobBoss) and aerospace-quality standards is emphasized.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on CNC machining experience, including setup and operation of multi-axis mills and/or lathes
- Leadership experience in a production/manufacturing environment with ability to train and motivate others
- Strong analytical/problem-solving skills for real-time diagnosis of machining/process issues
- Familiarity with ERP systems (Global Shop or JobBoss preferred) for work order tracking and reporting
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and ability to interpret aerospace blueprints
- Understanding of AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality requirements
- Proficiency with standard inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges)
- Ability to work independently and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with teamwork focus
