Job Summary
Lead Instrumentation & Control Engineer oversees a team responsible for designing various aspects of energy-industry projects from inception to completion. Key responsibilities include project planning and management (scopes of work, man-hour estimates, schedules, prioritization, progress reports, weekly updates to Vista platforms, and change coordination), team leadership and supervision of discipline engineering staff, design oversight for instrumentation and control solutions, review of vendor/drawings/quotations, approval of deliverables, and development of design standards. Also includes client and stakeholder coordination, quality and compliance assurance (QMS adherence, engineering documentation, and safety), and detailed instrumentation design tasks such as preparing P&ID inputs, instrument indexing, datasheets, I/O lists, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, UPS load requirements, PLC and fiber optic panels, control system architecture, and related specifications. The role entails construction/vendor support, and participation in site visits with safety requirements. Required qualifications emphasize extensive energy-industry facility engineering experience, P.Eng. registration with APEGA, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, with strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
Required Qualifications
- Ten-plus years of progressive experience in facilities engineering and design in the energy industry
- P.Eng. registration with APEGA
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in engineering or applied science
- Ability to work and collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and designers including process, mechanical, civil, structural & architectural, electrical, instrumentation & controls and piping
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, technical competence and attention to detail
- Self-motivated and efficient with time management
- Strong working knowledge and understanding of applicable codes and industry standards
- Ability to meet safety requirements to attend site visits
