Job Summary
Lead Hand Equipment Operator role coordinating day-to-day field operations and providing leadership to other operators. Responsibilities include assisting the Operations Manager with staffing, training, development, and evaluation; ensuring operators perform tasks safely and knowledgeably; ensuring pre-trip and post-trip inspections and daily equipment reports; providing feedback on productivity and performance; resolving customer and operator concerns; operating equipment as needed; maintaining safety and quality standards; and supporting safety investigations, meetings, and documentation. Requires the ability to operate relevant equipment, communicate effectively, perform basic calculations, and physically handle lifting tasks; forklift certification and potential transfer/landfill certifications may be needed. GFL emphasizes safety, sustainability, and team-driven growth within Field Operations across North America.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) desired
- Completion of forklift certification
- Ability to obtain Transfer Station/Landfill Operations Certification if needed
- Ability to operate equipment and read/write reports
- Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
- Ability to follow instructions and work under limited supervision
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
- Physical ability to lift/move up to 100 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, and operate equipment
- Safety and compliance knowledge
- Accident investigations and safety meetings participation
