Job Summary
Lead Engineer role focusing on mechanical design for power generation facilities, including leading piping/equipment design, development of PFDs and P&IDs for biomass/renewable and fossil generation, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes and client requirements. Responsible for sizing calculations, stress analysis, pipe supports, plant layout drawings, equipment data sheets, RFQs and bid evaluations, and cross-functional coordination with vendors, clients, and other engineering disciplines. Mentors junior engineers, leads project execution across multiple concurrent projects, participates in budget/schedule planning, and ensures deliverables meet owner requirements, specifications, permits, and regulatory standards. Requires extensive experience with reciprocating engines, gas/steam turbines, heat recovery systems, and familiarity with NAVFAC/USACE standards, UFCs/UFGSs, NFPA, and ICC codes; US citizenship and PE license are required. Priority on safe, ethical project execution and ongoing professional development in mechanical engineering techniques and industry practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
- 10+ years of mechanical engineering design experience in Power Generation projects
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
- U.S. citizenship required
- Experience with UFCs, UFGSs, FCs, NFPA standards, and ICC standards
- Experience in consulting environment
- Strong client interaction and mentoring abilities
- Proficiency in mechanical engineering principles, design-bid-build/design-build, permitting, and project work-related issues
- Experience in infrastructure planning, design, construction management
- Self-performance of mechanical engineering tasks (proposal, site investigations, design, calculations, cost estimating)
- Ability to conduct construction observations and site investigations
- Strong communication skills with both engineering and non-engineering audiences
- Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with health and safety policies
- Renewable and natural gas/diesel fired generation plant design experience
- Experience with Caesar II or AutoPipe
- Experience with Thermoflow
- CAD/BIM software proficiency (AutoCAD, REVIT)
- SpecsIntact specification authoring/editing
- Experience designing to NAVFAC and USACE design standards
- Mentoring and leadership experience for junior staff
