LEAD FLEET MECHANIC

Job Summary

Perform advanced preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and electrical repairs on diesel and gasoline vehicles while assisting the Mechanic Director with daily shop priorities and workflow coordination. Diagnose mechanical, HVAC, brake, and drivetrain issues, respond to vehicle breakdowns and road calls, and provide technical guidance and training to mechanics. Review completed repairs for safety and accuracy, implement fleet maintenance procedures, and complete all repair documentation and parts records accurately. Communicate vehicle status and maintenance needs to leadership, maintain a safe work environment, and operate company vehicles per policy. Minimize vehicle downtime through effective troubleshooting and maintain positive relationships with fleet, operations, and vendors.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of four (4) years of verifiable experience as an automotive, diesel, or fleet mechanic
  • Current and valid driver's license
  • Complete set of personal tools
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and adapt to changing operational needs
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and as part of a team
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, repair documents, and maintenance instructions
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, and confidentiality regarding company matters
  • Ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, and work in various positions for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull tools, equipment, and vehicle parts weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, noise, vehicle fluids, and outdoor weather
  • Ability to perform work under vehicles and in confined spaces as required
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety procedures
  • Must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodation

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience with emergency vehicles, ambulances, or commercial fleet maintenance
  • Previous lead mechanic or mentoring experience
