Job Summary
Lead Fabricator (2nd Shift) leads a structural steel fabrication team on the 2nd shift (Mon-Fri 3:30pm-1am) to meet daily production targets and delivery schedules. You will supervise fitters and welders, coordinate with Shop Foreman and QC, assign daily tasks, provide hands-on guidance on drawing interpretation and welding techniques, ensure safety and quality standards, onboard/train staff, manage timecards and disciplinary actions, and collaborate with Quality Control to ensure compliance with AISC standards.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience leading a steel fabrication team
- Strong knowledge of structural steel, welding, layout, fabrication techniques, and CNC fabrication equipment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings
- Familiarity with safety regulations, quality standards, and cost control practices
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Willingness to work 2nd shift hours, including overtime and Saturdays as needed
- Commitment to working in full compliance with company safety procedures and policies
- Supervise and support a team of fitters and welders to meet daily production targets and delivery schedules
- Coordinate with the Shop Foreman, QC, and maintenance teams to keep workflow efficient and equipment fully operational
- Assign daily tasks and workloads to maximize productivity and reduce downtime
- Provide hands-on support and guidance for fabrication-related issues, including drawing interpretation, welding techniques, and safety best practices
- Maintain open communication with leadership regarding deadlines, schedule changes, and team needs
- Assist with employee onboarding, training, performance reviews, timecard management, and disciplinary actions
- Work collaboratively with the Quality Control department to ensure all work complies with AISC standards
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the success of the fabrication shop
