Lead Estimator - Heavy Civil Construction/Bridge & Highway

Job Summary
Lead bid package management from start to finish, including cost saving initiatives, CPM scheduling, and Maintenance of Traffic Analysis. Prepare initial estimates, analyze risk matrices, and review all estimating reports before leading executive presentations. Guide the team by assigning work, mentoring young engineers, and participating in hiring processes. Build relationships with subcontractors and suppliers while tracking request for information and maintaining bid item codebooks. Create budgets for awarded contracts and perform productivity analysis on similar jobs. Monitor global economic trends and standard specification updates to ensure accurate cost modeling.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Engineering or Construction Management degree
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Heavy Civil: field position
- At least 5 years estimating in the USA
- Must have knowledge in FDOT bridge and roadway construction
- 30-Hour OSHA training
- Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Scheduling software, P6 Primavera
- Heavy Bid from HCSS
- Vista Accounting Software
- Bluebeam by REVU
- Must be a self-motivated person
- Willing to collaborate with peers
- Willing to teach young engineers
- Constantly strives to identify problems and solutions
- Possess high work values, integrity, and ethical standards
- Possess great focus to meet and exceed company requirements and expectations
- Great leadership skills to manage and coordinate the estimating team
- Excellent organization skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Savvy in foundations, concrete structures, cofferdam, retaining wall, temporary structural systems, underground and utility work, earthwork, signalization, roadway lighting and signing, intelligent transportation system, safety standards
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of different type of contract such as: design-build, design-bid-build, Lump Sum
- Familiarity with clients such as: FDOT/Turnpike, Miami Dade Expressway (MDX) or similar, South Florida Water Management (SFWMD), city and county authorities
- Located anywhere in the state of Florida
- Knowledge of Maintenance of Traffic Analysis
- Knowledge of CPM scheduling
- Knowledge of bid strategy
- Knowledge of cost saving initiatives
- Knowledge of bid item and quantities
- Knowledge of cost percentage per construction division
- Knowledge of Risk Matrix
- Knowledge of request for information during bid process
- Knowledge of estimating reports: equipment total hrs., labor total hrs., key indicators
- Knowledge of bid submittal
- Knowledge of presentation to executives before bid submittal
- Knowledge of productivity analysis with similar jobs
- Knowledge of crew, activity, and bid item codebooks
- Knowledge of global and local economy situation: inflation, construction index price, major commodities trending
- Knowledge of subcontractors and suppliers
- Knowledge of bid opportunities with current clients and new clients
- Knowledge of estimating hiring process, summer internship, and mentoring young estimators
- Knowledge of budget for the awarded contract
- Knowledge of labor, equipment, permanent material and construction material rate updates
