Job Summary
Lead Engineering Technician responsible for serving as a key project team member on highway and urban roadway projects from design through construction. Roles include independent and collaborative design contributions using CADD (Bentley OpenRoads/OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, AutoCAD/Civil 3D), acting as Chief Inspector on construction projects, and supporting materials testing (concrete/asphalt) and survey crews. Duties also cover documenting field progress, training junior staff, and communicating with contractors and project managers. Office flexibility through Apex offices or hybrid arrangements; travel and occasional overnight stays may be required. Qualifications include a High School diploma or equivalent (Associates degree in Engineering Technology or Drafting desirable), 5-10 years of relevant experience, proficiency with CADD platforms and Microsoft Office, MnDOT-related testing certifications or ability to obtain them, and a valid driver’s license. Responsibilities may include resident project representative duties and adherence to safety and company policies.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 2-Year Associates Degree in Engineering Technology or a Technical Degree in Drafting is highly desirable
- 5-10 years experience preferred in civil engineering design and construction inspection
- CADD platforms: Bentley OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation Connect, AutoCAD, Civil 3D
- Microsoft Windows/Office familiarity
- MnDOT AASHTOWARE experience or ability to attain
- valid driver's license
