Job Summary
Lead Engineering Technician responsible for taking a key role on highway and urban roadway projects from design through construction. Utilize CADD to develop project plans, act as Chief Inspector on construction projects, contribute to material testing/inspection (concrete and asphalt), support survey crews, and train junior staff. Works across multiple Apex offices with hybrid flexibility; requires strong Civil/engineering design knowledge, CAD proficiency (Bentley/OpenRoads, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D), and collaboration with Project Managers and senior engineers. Must be able to operate in field environments, coordinate with contractors, and manage project documentation and reporting. Travel and occasional overnight stays may be required. Benefits include comprehensive package and competitive base pay within $35-$50/hour range (annualized to $72,800-$104,000).
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 2-Year Associates Degree in Engineering Technology or a Technical Degree in Drafting (desirable)
- Minimum 5 years and up to 10 years of experience in civil engineering design and construction inspection principles
- Proficiency with CADD platforms (Bentley OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation Connect, AutoCAD, Civil 3D)
- Windows/Office proficiency
- Knowledge of MnDOT AASHTOWARE system (or ability to learn)
- Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one
- Ability to work in team environments and communicate effectively
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated with strong organizational skills
