Job Summary
Lead Engineer – Control & Protection for GE Vernova Grid Solutions focused on designing, implementing, and optimizing protection relay systems for EHV/HV substations. Responsible for engineering drawings (SLD/KLD/PSLD/CRP) using E-CAD tools (Engineering Base, E-Plan, AutoCAD Electrical), and designing/reviewing substation automation systems based on IEC61850 with interconnections. Review BOQ and network drawings for PLCC/FOTE engineering, interface CRP & SAS with telecom equipment, and assess major substation equipment (circuit breakers, isolators, earth switches, transformers/reactors). Perform CT/VT sizing, LV/LT auxiliary system design, and protection relay application/setting calculations with coordination and tripping analysis. Additional competencies include renewable project experience (solar, wind, battery storage or hybrid), HVDC/FACTS integration, and studies on power systems (load flow, short circuit). Proficient with tools like CANECO, ETAP, DIG Silent, and able to work with various IEDs, numerical protection relays, and RTUs. Emphasizes project management, cross-functional leadership, clear communication, and mentorship of junior engineers; travel internationally as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in electrical engineering or related field from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience with Degree or 12+ years with Diploma in EHV/HV AIS & GIS Substation design
- Experience in EPC environments with multidisciplinary teams
- Experience/Knowledge on Relay Testing, Equipment Testing, Control/Protection scheme testing & SAS Commissioning (min 1 year)
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Willingness to travel internationally as required
- Proven technical leadership in a complex system engineering development environment
- Fluent in English; additional language is a plus
