Job Summary
Lead Engineer responsible for defining functional specifications for C&I safety systems in a nuclear safety context; leads development of functional design during conceptual/front-end engineering to set design intent and translate plant needs into implementable system requirements; provides technical authority for safety-related C&I design and engages with safety-case teams, architects, system owners, and engineering disciplines to ensure alignment with IEC nuclear standards and regulatory expectations; coaches and mentors junior engineers and coordinates multiple design work packages while ensuring governance, verification and validation, and cross-disciplinary decision-making. Key skills include extensive C&I functional design in safety-critical industries, control theory and process control, safety-system concepts (redundancy and diversity), experience with nuclear or safety-critical standards, and techniques such as HAZOP, FMEA, and PSA; strong stakeholder management and ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse stakeholders. Location is hybrid with Derby, Manchester, or Warrington as primary sites.
