Job Summary
Lead Electrical Engineer role within WSP’s Federal Power and Energy Team focusing on mission critical DoD facilities and energy infrastructure. The ideal candidate provides lead electrical engineering support and technical expertise on power distribution and building electrical projects from 0V to 35kV, reviews third-party design documents and procurement lists, develops electrical calculations and contract documents, mentors junior staff, and supports multiple concurrent projects while ensuring conformance with NEC, UFCs, NFPA, NAVFAC and USACE standards. Responsibilities include developing single-line and wiring diagrams, equipment layouts, grounding/grid designs, arc-flash and short-circuit analyses, and coordinating with owners, sub-consultants, and clients; producing technical reports and presentations to address design/construction issues; and guiding entry- and mid-level engineers. The role requires a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, 10+ years of relevant experience, PE license, and US citizenship; relocation not offered; location flexibility to Boise, ID; Honolulu, HI; Virginia Beach, VA; or Huntsville, AL with in-person work expectations for these sites.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
- 10+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience in design and specification of low and medium voltage power distribution systems, building electrical systems, lighting systems, grounding, lightning protection, and design deliverables for large capital projects
- Experience leading designs that include medium voltage primary and secondary distribution substations, switchgear and system protection
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
- U.S. citizenship
- Knowledge and experience with federal government project design with understanding of UFCs, UFGSs, FCs, NEC, ANSI/IEEE standards, NFPA standards, and ICC standards
- Experience within a consulting environment
- Proven experience with client interaction as a senior electrical subject matter expert with an ability to lead and mentor others
- Proficient knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, design-bid-build, design/build, and permitting and project work-related issues
- Ability to plan and conduct construction observations and site engineering investigations
- Experience with review of vendor documents
- Experience preparing complex technical deliverables
- Interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences
- Proven track record of workplace safety and adherence to health, safety and harassment policies
- Power distribution modeling software (e.g., SKM PTW, ETAP)
- Lighting modeling software (e.g., AGI32)
- CAD and BIM software (AutoCAD, REVIT)
- SpecsIntact specification authoring/editing
- Experience designing to NAVFAC and USACE design standards
