Job Summary
Lead Diesel Mechanic responsible for leading maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of diesel engines, generators, and heavy equipment; provides technical leadership to maintenance personnel, ensures equipment reliability and safety, and supports mission-critical operations in a highly regulated industrial and government environment. Responsibilities include coordinating daily diesel maintenance, diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and related systems, overseeing preventive/predictive maintenance, supervising mechanics and subcontractors, maintaining CMMS records, ensuring environmental and safety compliance, and coordinating with operations and engineering to resolve issues. Desired certifications include ASE Medium/Heavy Truck, CDL, OSHA 30, and EPA certifications; area security requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance. Strong leadership, communication, and diagnostic skills are essential, along with thorough knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic, fuel, electrical, and power generation systems.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Technical training in diesel technology, heavy equipment maintenance, or a related field
- Minimum 7–10 years of diesel mechanic experience in industrial, government, construction, utility, military, or heavy equipment environments
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, fuel systems, electrical systems, and power generation equipment
- Experience using computerized diagnostic equipment and maintenance software
- Valid driver's license
- US Citizenship
