Job Summary
Lead Developer at Aevi will combine hands-on software engineering with technical leadership: design, build, and operate cloud-native backend services in Java and Kotlin, contribute to architecture discussions, own full SDLC from design to production support, and drive engineering excellence. You will mentor engineers, help hiring and onboarding, and balance feature delivery with technical debt and platform maturity. The role focuses on delivering robust, scalable payment services globally, improving platform reliability, and shaping technical direction through pragmatic leadership. Hybrid work is available from our Czech Republic office (Prague) and collaboration with product, QA, DevOps, and architecture teams is emphasized.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong experience building backend applications using Java and Kotlin
- Previous experience leading or mentoring software engineers
- Hands-on experience delivering production systems in cloud environments
- Strong understanding of software design principles and engineering best practices
- Experience working across the full software development lifecycle
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Fluent English, both written and spoken
- Experience with Spring Boot and modern backend frameworks
- Experience with AWS services and cloud-native architectures
- Experience with Docker and containerization
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or AWS CDK)
- Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases
- Experience with event-driven and distributed systems
- Experience with automated testing and CI/CD practices
- Git-based development workflows
- Nice to Have: Payments/fintech/banking experience, PCI DSS, ISO 8583, HSM integrations, observability tools
