Job Summary

Instruct custodians on building and grounds custodial activities, monitor their performance, and apply progressive discipline for deficiencies. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, assist with scheduling, and perform preventive maintenance on plumbing, ventilation, and facility hardware. Clean designated spaces, operate facility equipment like compressors and boilers, and handle minor electrical and plumbing repairs. Ensure safety compliance with OSHA standards, maintain accurate records and reports, and assist visitors with directions and equipment setup. Open and close the building daily to maintain security. Reports to the Zone Manager and Principal, working on Rock Hill Schools premises. Requires a valid driver's license, negative TB test, and at least one year of building-level experience. Occasional evenings, weekends, or overtime required for events or emergencies.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have at least one year of building level experience
  • Must be 18 years old
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs; occasionally up to 90 lbs
  • Must follow all district safety procedures and OSHA standards
  • Must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints
  • Must be able to exercise sound judgment, respond to emergencies, and work independently or as part of a team
  • Must be able to perform and oversee routine cleaning, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs
  • Must be able to establish and maintain good working relationships with subordinates, as well as other staff and administrators
  • Must be able to effectively supervise, lead, and evaluate performance
  • Must be able to plan, organize, and prioritize work assignments to meet schedules and deadlines
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with staff, supervisors, and the public
  • Must be able to train and motivate custodial staff, monitor performance, and ensure high-quality work
  • Must be able to maintain accurate records, inventories, and reports
  • Must be able to safely operate, use, and maintain custodial tools, materials, and equipment
  • Must have thorough knowledge of proper custodial procedures
  • Must have knowledge of occupational safety standards and OSHA regulations related to custodial and operations
  • Must have knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques of custodial work, facility maintenance, and preventive care
  • Must be able to maintain building and grounds security by opening and closing the building each day
  • Must be able to assist visiting public utilizing the facilities with directions within the building or in obtaining and setting up needed equipment and or material
  • Must be able to perform normal operator adjustments, and service to facility operational equipment such as, but not limited to, compressors, boilers, unit ventilators and fans and maintain records on operational and maintenance activities
  • Must be able to perform minor electrical, air conditioning, and plumbing maintenance and repairs
  • Must be able to perform ongoing preventive maintenance and minor repair on plumbing, custodial equipment, ventilation, building structure and hardware
  • Must be able to clean and preserve designated spaces, equipment, etc. in the building
  • Must be able to instruct custodians verbally or in writing in building and grounds custodial and routine preventive maintenance activities
  • Must be able to monitor the job performance of custodians
  • Must be able to document job performance, correct substandard performance, and use the Progressive Discipline Policy to address deficiencies in the performance of custodians
  • Must be able to assist in scheduling and assigning extra time and duties for custodians
  • Must be able to maintain inventory of custodial/maintenance supplies and equipment
  • Must be able to maintain work related records and prepare various reports as directed
  • Must be able to ensure Safety program of classified staff per OSHA general industry standards
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces, on ladders, or in varying temperatures
  • Must be able to work near or with moving mechanical equipment
  • Must be able to work with toxic or caustic chemicals which may include petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays
  • Must be able to work occasionally evenings, weekends, or overtime required for events or emergencies
  • Must be able to work frequently climbing ladders and using hand strength to operate tools and equipment
  • Must be able to regularly stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach with hands and arms
  • Must have specific vision abilities including close, color, peripheral, and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to provide negative tb test results prior to beginning employment
  • Must be able to travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
  • Must be able to submit official transcripts, three professional references with at least one supervisory reference and a copy of the appropriate credentials as part of the application process
  • Must be able to provide personal information necessary to complete a criminal history background check such as date of birth, gender, and race
