Job Summary
Prepare meals according to approved menus and recipes while accounting for residents' special dietary needs, likes, and dislikes. Supervise dietary staff in the absence of the Dining Services Director and Supervisor, assisting with training new employees and conducting in-services. Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen, including floors and equipment, and report faulty items or temperature issues immediately. Control portion sizes to minimize waste, manage leftover food storage, and ensure all food temperatures are recorded three times daily. Monitor resident dietary requests, make approved menu substitutions, and remain alert to changes in resident needs. Work flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience as a cook, preferably in senior living for fine dining
- Leadership experience
- Serv-Safe certification, or be willing to complete certification within 60 days of hire
- Basic understanding of food service operations including familiarity with other dietary position duties
- Ability to read, write, and make simple calculations
- Ability to learn quickly and apply principles learned
- Ability to follow oral and written directions
- Experience in food preparation, cooking and in estimating quantities of food required
- Knowledgeable of principles and requirements of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and withstand temperature extremes, wet and/or humid conditions and noise
- Ability to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis or at least eight (8) times per shift
- Ability to carry heavy objects for 20 feet
- Ability to pull, push, grasp, and reach adequately to perform necessary cooking activities
- Ability to be organized and work well with people as part of a team
- Must be in designated uniform (including slip resistant footwear) during working hours and maintain good personal hygiene
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays
