Job Summary
Lead Construction Inspector for a long-term Federal-sector project in Salt Lake City, UT. Responsible for on-site inspection of multi-trade construction and renovation work, reviewing blueprints and shop drawings, coordinating field activities, and ensuring contract and code compliance. Leads inspection teams, prepares field reports and non-conformance notices, documents progress with photographic records, and maintains project logs. Interacts with government clients, contractors, and design teams to resolve issues, reviews RFIs and change orders, and verifies contractor pay applications and construction schedules. Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field, a minimum of five years’ experience, prior lead-inspector experience, and government/military project exposure. Proficient in interpreting drawings, estimating costs and schedule impacts, and ensuring safety compliance (OSHA). Demonstrated ability to mentor inspection staff and support project closeout with punch lists and final inspections.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction/inspection
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline
- Experience as a Lead Inspector
- Government or military project experience
- Proficiency in reviewing blueprints/drawings/specifications and guiding project execution
- Experience leading and facilitating meetings with clients and management
- Knowledge of construction practices, materials, installation methods, and quality standards
- Ability to prepare professional correspondence and maintain construction site records
- Experience with construction safety protocols and OSHA requirements
- Ability to inspect materials, workmanship, and installation of building systems (fire alarm, life safety)
- Experience with project controls, cost estimation, schedule impacts, and change management
- Familiarity with construction management software (e.g., E-Builder)
- Strong written and verbal communication, mentorship, and QA/QC leadership
- Ability to prepare field reports, non-conformance notices, and photographic documentation
- Ability to review RFIs, submittals, and pay applications
- Experience coordinating multi-trade inspections and ensuring regulatory compliance
