Lead Civil Engineer - NYC Transportation

Job Summary

Lead and contribute to the design of NYC-based site civil transportation projects, including highway design, transit infrastructure, and utility relocations. Provide guidance on collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from physical work sites, surveys, and blueprints for project development. Apply high-level civil engineering techniques to identify improvements across concept, preliminary, and final design phases. Perform professional civil engineering work, conduct research and inspections, and develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates. Oversee cross-functional teams of engineers and subconsultants, managing budgets, tracking expenses, and ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and regulations. Prepare comprehensive technical reports, presentations, and visualizations to interpret complex data and findings. Interact with clients, public agencies, and regulatory bodies to coordinate infrastructure projects from inception to completion.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in engineering and civil design.
  • Engineer license.
  • Experience delivering projects for New York public agencies including but not limited to the MTA, NYSDOT, NYCDOT, NYCDDC and Port Authority of NY & NJ.
  • Proficient with civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Extensive knowledge of infrastructure design.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects.
  • Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley MicroStation, InRoads Bentley OpenRoads Designer.), technology, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
