Job Summary
Lead Children's Services Coordinator ensures a comprehensive preschool program for infants and toddlers following Alaska childcare licensing regulations. Responsibilities include implementing developmentally appropriate approaches for early childhood education across social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and language domains; supervising Primary Teachers and Teacher Aides, including task assignments and performance evaluation; collaborating with families, department staff, community agencies, and facility staff; assisting with curriculum, coordinating lesson plans across all program components, and coordinating enrollment. Records payments for childcare services, ensuring timely submission to the Program Assistant. Maintains center-based programs that promote child health and safety, adheres to licensing ratios, follows state reporting requirements for child abuse and neglect, and maintains a safe learning environment. Requires ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and demonstrate cooperative behavior. Requires ongoing ongoing professional development in child development and supervisory responsibilities; strong communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least twelve (12) semester hours of college credit in early childhood development, child development, child psychology, or the equivalent, such as a current CDA (Child Development Associate)
- College credit in management may substitute for three (3) of the twelve (12) required hour
- Bachelor’s degree in child development or the equivalent shall participate in continuing education by obtaining at least three (3) semester hours of college credits in courses relevant to children’s care and development every three (3) years (if bachelor’s held) OR every two (2) years (if no bachelor’s)
- Forty-five (45) clock hours of training may be substituted for three (3) semester hours
- Must have management and supervisory skills to plan and evaluate programs, supervise employees, delegate, motivate staff and handle finances
- Minimum two (2) years of previous work experience with direct child contact in an early childhood or child development program
- Minimum one (1) year supervisory experience in an early childhood program with ability to motivate employees
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently as well as with teams
- Ability to report to work in a timely manner
- Knowledge of customer service concepts and practices
- Understanding and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles
- Skill in operating personal computers and software
- Skill in managing multiple priorities and deadlines
- Skill in oral and written communication
- Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees
