Job Summary
Lead Backend Engineer (Ruby On Rails) for a fully remote, contract role in a fast-moving mobile apps startup. You will lead a senior backend team (4–5 engineers), translate product goals into technical roadmaps and sprint plans, own the backend architecture for mobile-first consumer apps, drive feature development with cross-functional teams, optimize performance and scalability on AWS, modernize a large RoR codebase, establish coding standards and CI/CD practices, and contribute hands-on coding and code reviews while guiding production incident response. Requires 8+ years of backend experience, strong RoR expertise, proven system design for high-traffic apps, cloud experience (AWS), and excellent communication in a remote startup environment.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years backend development experience
- proven experience owning backend architecture for mobile-first, consumer-facing apps
- strong hands-on expertise with Ruby On Rails
- experience building and scaling high-traffic systems
- cloud experience (preferably AWS)
- excellent communication skills
- startup/fast-moving product background
- ability to work in a fully remote, distributed team
