Job Summary
Lead AI Solutions Engineer to design, develop, and deploy scalable Generative AI solutions for NPR's content metadata, shaping NPR's first GA I-focused product development team. Responsibilities include engineering and implementing GAI systems, establishing best practices (MLOps, RAG, prompt engineering, model evaluation), cross-functional collaboration with product managers, data scientists, software and infrastructure engineers, and stakeholders; ensure Responsible AI alignment with policies; perform data-driven optimization (A/B testing, performance monitoring); scout new AI technologies and drive innovation; role requires hybrid work with in-office presence at NPR's Washington, DC location at least two days a week.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional experience in software development, data science, or machine learning engineering with production systems
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with generative AI, ML, or data products
- Expert proficiency in Python and building functional prototypes
- Demonstrable understanding and experience with Large Language Models, RAG architectures, prompting, function calling, retrieval, vector databases, embeddings, fine-tuning, and model evaluation
- Familiarity with MCP servers and agentic workflows
- Background in creating QA systems for AI processes and development
- Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate technical architectures to product and non-technical stakeholders
- Collaborative and adaptable mindset
