Lead AI Engineer

Job Summary
Lead AI Engineer to design, build, and deliver AI-native, production-grade systems integrated into core platforms in Sofia. You will line-manage and coach a team of engineers, drive architectural ownership, and lead AI capability and transformation initiatives. Responsibilities include hands-on backend development (Java/backend systems), championing clean code and testing, defining system design and engineering standards, embedding AI capabilities into decisioning platforms, and collaborating with Product Owners, Architects, and stakeholders to deliver impactful AI-enabled solutions. Requires experience delivering scalable, production-grade systems, integrating AI/ML or Generative AI in production, cloud/platform familiarity (AWS, CI/CD, containers), and strong ability to translate business problems into technical solutions; prior experience in regulated or data-driven environments and a track record of leadership in engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
- Strong experience in software engineering (Java / backend / distributed systems)
- Proven experience leading engineering teams as a line manager
- Track record of delivering scalable, production-grade systems in enterprise environments
- Experience working with or integrating AI/ML or Generative AI solutions in production
- Strong ability to translate business problems into technical solutions
- Experience with cloud platforms and modern engineering ecosystems (e.g. AWS, CI/CD, containers)
- Understanding of AI system design, evaluation, and operational practices (e.g. LLMOps)
- Experience in regulated or data-driven environments
