Job Summary
Layout Integration Engineer responsible for development and delivery of integrated plant layouts across Fusion and Modular Nuclear programmes, including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), Advanced Modular Reactors (AMRs) and Fusion projects. The role combines plant layout engineering, piping layout, multidisciplinary integration, systems engineering awareness and CAD/BIM capability. The successful candidate will work closely with Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil & Structural, Architecture, HVAC, Fire, Human Factors and Systems Engineering disciplines to develop safe, constructable, operable and maintainable plant arrangements. The Layout Integration Engineer will take ownership of assigned systems, buildings or plant areas and drive layout development from concept through detailed design. Key responsibilities include owning layout development, developing integrated equipment, piping, cable tray, access and maintenance layouts, interpreting PFDs/P&IDs, capturing design assumptions, developing layouts within 3D CAD/BIM environments, leading piping routing studies, acting as primary layout focal point, coordinating design activities across disciplines, leading workshops and reviews, identifying clashes and design conflicts, ensuring layout solutions satisfy requirements, producing general arrangements and reports, and supporting modularisation and interface management. Essential skills include a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, experience in plant layout/piping design, nuclear/complex environments, proficiency with CAD/BIM tools (E3D, PDMS, Plant 3D, Siemens NX, Revit, Inventor) and model review software (Navisworks), ability to interpret PFDs/P&IDs and apply systems engineering principles, and clear communication. Desirable experience includes nuclear/fusion/SMR/AMR sectors and leadership of plant areas or work packages, with a commitment to equality and diversity, and awareness of recruitment fraud notices.
Required Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent industrial experience.
- Experience in plant layout, piping design, plant design or multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Experience within nuclear, power generation, defence, submarine, oil & gas, process plant or other complex engineering environments.
- Experience using E3D, PDMS, Plant 3D, Siemens NX, Revit, Inventor or similar CAD/BIM tools.
- Experience using Navisworks or equivalent model review software.
- Ability to interpret engineering documentation including PFDs and P&IDs.
- Understanding of systems engineering principles, requirements management and interface management.
- Strong communication and report writing skills.
- SC Clearance or capable of achieving it.
