Job Summary
Provide trauma-informed legal services to survivors of childhood sexual abuse and the Stolen Generations, including high-quality information, advice, representation and referrals via telephone and face-to-face contacts. Work within Knowmore’s national legal practice as part of a multidisciplinary team, manage a significant caseload, make referrals to external providers, and participate in outreach to agencies and remote communities while complying with relevant legal profession standards. The role emphasizes culturally safe service delivery to First Nations people, collaborative work with social workers and Indigenous engagement advisers, and a focus on healing and justice for clients.
Required Qualifications
- A practicing certificate to practice as a lawyer in Queensland
- Experience in or good understanding of administrative and/or civil law
- Experience providing legal advice to vulnerable individuals, underpinned by a trauma informed approach
- Demonstrated cultural competency in providing services to Aboriginal people and/or organisations and/or relevant experience demonstrating an ability to acquire and apply those skills quickly in the role
- Experience delivering plain language legal advice and information
- Sound computer skills within a legal practice environment (knowledge of CRM systems desirable)
- A willingness to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- A commitment to social justice
