Job Summary
Respond to calls for service, suppress crime through identification and apprehension of criminals, and regulate non-criminal conduct such as traffic and crowd control. Secure crime scenes, conduct preliminary investigations, gather evidence, and make arrests while preparing reports to assist in prosecution. Maintain working knowledge of criminal and traffic law, attend regular training classes, and complete a minimum of 40 hours of annual in-service training. Perform rescue functions at accidents and disasters, operate firearms safely, and work rotating shifts with call-out capability 24 hours a day. This entry-level position requires a Utah resident, age 21 or older, with a valid driver's license and a passing NPOST score of 70% or higher. Candidates must be prepared for physically demanding work in hostile or life-threatening situations.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a resident of the State of Utah at the time of hire
- Must be 21 years of age at the time of hire
- Must possess a valid Utah Driver's license at time of hire
- Must be free of any physical, emotional, or mental condition that would prevent an applicant from performing the essential functions of a Deputy position
- Must have a passing NPOST score of 70% or higher
- Must be prepared to demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation
- Must be willing and able to work overtime as workload dictates
- Must submit to random drug and alcohol testing during employment
- Must work rotating shifts and assignments and is subject to call out 24 hours a day
- Must wear body armor and carry duty weapons and equipment weighing up to 25 lbs
