Job Summary

Review, research, and annotate laws, court decisions, briefs, and related legal authorities. Prepare briefs, legal memoranda, and statements of issues, compiling references necessary for legal determinations. Confer with the judge or court officials regarding legal questions and document construction. Attend court sessions to hear oral arguments, record case information, and perform courtroom duties such as calling the calendar, swearing in jury panels, taking minutes, and assisting in arraignments, motions, and trials. This full-time position at the Lyon County Government Center in Marshall, MN, offers exposure to a multi-faceted caseload including criminal, civil, family, and juvenile law. Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Knowledge of general law, state law, established precedent, and sources of legal reference
  • Knowledge of court practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and concepts
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with a diverse group of people
  • Ability to research complex legal problems or questions and apply legal principles
  • Ability to represent the court in a respectful manner
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word/Windows operating system and legal research software
  • Must include a law school transcript
  • Must include a brief writing sample

  • Must pass a criminal background check
