Job Summary
Review laws, court decisions, and documents; prepare proposed orders and legal memoranda; compile information for legal determinations. Confer with the Judge on legal questions and document construction; attend court sessions to hear oral arguments, record case information, and maintain records. Perform courtroom duties including taking minutes, calling the calendar, swearing in witnesses, and assisting with arraignments, motions, hearings, pre-trial conferences, and trials. Handle administrative tasks such as maintaining chambers operations, corresponding with attorneys, assisting with scheduling and community outreach, and filing documents. Work full-time Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional remote flexibility requiring a reliable internet connection. Candidates must hold a law degree or be enrolled in law school, possess proficiency with Westlaw and Microsoft Word, and may be preferred with retail or customer-facing experience.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited law school at time of employment
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Current enrollment in and completion of at least one year of law school training at an accredited law school
- Knowledge of laws, court rules, and sources of legal reference
- Knowledge of court practices and procedures
- Knowledge of legal terminology and concepts
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with a diverse group of people including attorneys and self-represented parties
- Ability to research complex legal problems or questions and apply legal principles
- Ability to represent the court in a respectful manner
- Proficient computer skills, including experience using Westlaw, Zoom, and Microsoft Word
- Ability to exhibit cultural sensitivity, patience, professionalism, and empathy in the course of work duties
- Reliable internet connection
- Ability to work full time during regular business hours
- Must be able to lift items up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to work in an office setting, courtroom or at a public counter
- Must be able to work with persons who may be angry, abusive, or threatening
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Must be able to work Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
