Job Summary
Law Clerk I supporting the Department of Justice Civil Division (via CACI) with focus on Claims Review (Eligibility, Fast Track, and Non-Economic Loss) and participation in the litigation lifecycle from discovery through trial and appeal. The role involves intensive document reviews to identify relevant documents, legal and factual research, and collaboration with a team of litigation support professionals. The position emphasizes development of research/writing skills, proficiency with LEXIS/Westlaw, ESI tools, and spreadsheet/data management, with tuition reimbursement opportunities for Relativity certifications, ACEDS, and Paralegal certificates. Minimum travel is none; compensation aligns with the Service Contract Labor Standards and location-specific factors, with comprehensive benefits and growth opportunities within the organization.
Required Qualifications
- Law degree, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study
- Sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw
- Hands-on familiarity with computer applications including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging
- Experience in reviewing, evaluating, and analyzing claims, with the ability to apply established criteria to determine legal sufficiency
- Experience in analyzing and organizing documents for supporting evidence and determining mechanisms to perfect insufficient claims
- Strong Excel skills with experience using complex workbooks
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, including experience working with the public (claimants) and with external attorneys (claimants’ legal representatives)
- Excellent research and writing skills, demonstrated experience working with complex statutory and regulatory schemes
- Flexibility and creativity in the application of existing policies
