Job Summary
Drive long-term architectural strategy for Blackbaud's core event management and fundraising products, balancing scalability, security, and regulatory requirements. Lead modernization efforts by refactoring legacy systems, adopting cloud-native patterns on Microsoft Azure, and leveraging AI tools to accelerate code analysis, refactoring, and test generation. Establish engineering standards for reliability and observability while mentoring senior engineers on safe, compliant AI usage across the full software lifecycle. Collaborate with Product, Security, and Compliance teams to translate complex requirements into robust, maintainable SaaS solutions.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including leadership roles on complex, enterprise-scale systems
- Deep experience designing and delivering enterprise software
- Proven ability to lead architectural discussions and influence technical direction across multiple teams
- Strong expertise in Java, Oracle, and modern backend architecture patterns
- Experience with relational and NoSQL data stores (e.g., SQL Server, Cosmos DB) and RESTful API design
- Proficiency with modern web technologies, including Angular, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS
- Ability to work flexible hours as required by business priorities
- Able to deliver work which meets all minimum requirements for quality, security and operability
- AI-assisted development experience
- Hands-on experience using AI-powered development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar
- Demonstrated ability to apply AI tools effectively in: Code authoring and refactoring, Code reviews and quality improvement, Test generation and coverage enhancement, Legacy system analysis and modernization
- Experience setting team-level expectations and guardrails for AI usage to ensure code quality, security, and compliance
- Experience building and operating cloud-based SaaS platforms, preferably on Microsoft Azure
- Solid understanding of data modeling, transactional systems, reporting, and integration patterns
- Strong grasp of software quality practices, including automated testing, performance tuning, and production monitoring
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- A collaborative mindset and a passion for mentoring and developing other engineers
