Job Summary

Collect soiled laundry from living and medical units, sort articles by color and fabric, and track all items collected. Load and unload automatic washing and drying machines, wash, fold, and place clean articles on racks by units, then press or iron garments as instructed. Ensure work and cleaning schedules are followed, coordinate daily laundry services with nursing services, and report any shortages or discrepancies in counts to the Housekeeper. Clean floors, walls, work carts, and equipment as requested while maintaining accurate records of incoming and outgoing clothing. Wear protective clothing and safety equipment when handling chemicals, infectious waste, or heavy objects. Maintain confidentiality of resident care information and attend mandatory in-service training programs.

Required Qualifications

  • 8th grade education
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and /or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a mental and physical examination
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions concerning the mixing of cleaning compounds, liquids, disinfectant solutions, etc
  • Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain an appearance of laundry areas, for sanitation, order, and safety
  • Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, the appearance of work areas, and perform regular inspections of food service areas for sanitation, order, safety, and proper performance of assigned duties
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
