Job Summary
Conduct patrol duties as a lateral entry officer for the City of Aurora Police Department, requiring a minimum of two years of full-time sworn experience as a Municipal Officer, Illinois State Trooper, or County Sheriff's Deputy. Maintain good standing with your current agency, hold a valid Illinois Law Enforcement Certification, and possess a Class "D" driver's license and FOID card. Complete the selection process including orientation, panel interview, psychological assessment, background investigation, and medical examination. Adhere to department tattoo policies prohibiting facial and neck markings, and ensure all tattoos are covered for court appearances.
Required Qualifications
- Currently employed for a minimum of two (2) years with their agency as a full-time Sworn Municipal Officer, Illinois State Trooper, or County Sheriff's Deputy (Patrol/Road Division)
- Off probationary status
- In good standing with their current agency
- State of Illinois Law Enforcement Certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board as a law enforcement officer in good standing
- Part-time certification as a law enforcement officer does not meet this requirement
- At least 23 years old
- Under 40 years old at the time of hire
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- U.S. Citizen at the time of appointment
- Valid Class D driver's license
- Valid Illinois FOID card
- Good moral character
- Not convicted of any felony
- No record of misdemeanor convictions that disqualify candidates for a position in the Police Department
- Current P.O.W.E.R Test card from an ILETSB entity, issued within the last 6 months
