Job Summary
Postdoctoral position in Advanced Photon Technologies at LLNL collaborating within the NIF&PS directorate to advance solid-state laser systems and diagnostics. Responsibilities include conducting R&D on long and short-pulse laser experiments, designing/building/testing fielding, and commissioning laser systems and diagnostics; organizing and interpreting experimental and simulation data with statistical/computational tools; contributing to conception, design, and execution of research addressing defined problems; collaborating in a multidisciplinary team; publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences; and performing other duties as assigned. Candidates must have a PhD in laser physics, applied physics, or related field, plus experience with high-energy solid-state lasers and relevant laser technologies, the ability to work in a collaborative team, and the ability to obtain/maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance (U.S. citizenship required). The role offers relocation assistance, a salary around $123,048 annually, and is a postdoctoral appointment with possible extension up to three years; position is based in Livermore, CA with onsite work expected.
Required Qualifications
- PhD degree in laser physics, applied physics, general physics, atomic physics, optics and optoelectronics, or related technical field or discipline
- Experience designing, building, and/or operating high-energy (> mJ) solid-state lasers
- Experience with short pulse laser technology, frequency conversion, non-linear optics, fiber lasers, ultrafast lasers, short pulse laser diagnostics, and/or plasma physics
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively in a team environment and present and explain technical information
