Job Summary
Program, set up, and operate computer-controlled laser cutting machines to produce high-quality sheet metal parts, including short-run and custom jobs. Create laser nests to optimize material usage and inspect parts throughout production using calipers and other measuring tools. Troubleshoot machine alarms, perform optics cleaning, and conduct basic maintenance while supporting material handling with forklifts and cranes. Prepare materials for secondary operations such as grinding and finishing, maintaining quality standards through first-piece, in-process, and final inspections. Work independently on setup adjustments and production challenges within a stable 1st shift schedule.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in laser cutting or similar CNC/metal fabrication environment
- Strong understanding of laser cutting principles, practices, and production processes
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, BOMs, and part drawings
- Experience with NC code and laser nesting software
- Strong shop math skills (typically equivalent to 4 years of high school or vocational training)
- Comfortable working with computers and manufacturing software systems
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work independently with general supervision
