Job Summary
Laser Operator on 1st Shift sets up, programs, and operates CNC laser cutting machines and material loaders/unloaders to produce sheet metal parts, including short-run and custom jobs. Responsibilities include creating laser nests to optimize material usage, inspecting parts with calipers and other measuring tools, troubleshooting machine alarms, performing basic machine maintenance, assisting with material handling and secondary operations (grinding, finishing), and ensuring quality through first-piece, in-process, and final inspections. Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of laser cutting or CNC fabrication experience, can read blueprints/BOMs/part drawings, are proficient with NC code and laser nesting software, and possess strong shop math and independent-work capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in laser cutting or similar CNC/metal fabrication environment
- Strong understanding of laser cutting principles, practices, and production processes
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, BOMs, and part drawings
- Experience with NC code and laser nesting software
- Strong shop math skills (typically equivalent to 4 years of high school or vocational training)
- Comfortable working with computers and manufacturing software systems
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work independently with general supervision
