Job Summary
The Backwelder sets up and assembles pole components by performing GMAW welding and tack welding on shafts, reading drawings to determine parts, and positioning parts with a jib crane. Responsibilities include welding small components to poles, using plasma torch for cutting, measuring with tapes, levels, and squares, and ensuring proper placement of attachments. The role requires operating shared shop equipment, adhering to safety protocols, and maintaining relevant certifications. The position is the 2nd shift (Evenings) from 3PM to 11PM with potential additional hours, and involves lifting up to 50 pounds, working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and wearing PPE. Strong emphasis on quality assurance and proper interpretation of drawings is required, along with the ability to work in a structured production setting at Valmont in Brenham, TX.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to read and write English
- Ability to use common manufacturing math
- 6 months previous experience welding in a manufacturing or fabrication environment, and/or have graduated from an acceptable Technical Training Program focused in welding
- Must pass GMAW 1-G flat plate and/or rotational weld test and maintain certification
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1 year previous experience welding in an assembly environment
- 1 year previous experience welding in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
- 1 year previous experience operating hand and/or power tools
