Job Summary
Maintain outdoor areas including gardens, lawns, pathways, and landscaped spaces by performing maintenance tasks such as overseeding, thatching, watering, trimming shrubs, weeding, fertilizing, and mulching. Operate lawn equipment including weed trimmers, blowers, mowers, tractors, and snowblowers to clear debris, leaves, and snow from walkways and parking lots. Prepare outdoor areas for weather conditions by weatherproofing and covering furniture with tarps while managing inventory of supplies. Respond to engineering and maintenance requests via automated systems and complete required reports and logs as directed. Work 24/7 across three luxury properties including The Ocean House, The Cottage Collection, and The Watch Hill Inn, with flexible scheduling during peak season from Memorial Day through Columbus Day.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a valid drivers license
- Groundskeeper should have the physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions
- All seasonal staff must be aware and able to work all weekends
- Requesting time off for a holiday weekend may not and will likely not be granted
- Working knowledge of different types of grass, shrubs, seasonal plants and their applications of best use, as well as asset protection during the duration of the maintenance procedure
- Knowledge of all tools and equipment respective to job function of garden and grounds keeping
- Knowledge of safe chemical handling, MSDS, PPE's and proper disposal practices
- Being a team player, while often working alone, there are also occasions when working with others on a variety of maintenance tasks is essential to completing the task
- Punctuality and reliability cannot be stressed enough
- Previous hotel or public occupied space experience preferred
- Excellent diagnostics and problem-solving skills are an asset
- Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities
- Ability to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy under pressure of tense/confrontational situations
- Ability to remain calm and resolve problems using good judgement as interpreted by the management
- Follow directions
- Work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team
- Maintain confidentiality of guest/employee information and pertinent company data
Desired Qualifications
- Previous hotel or public occupied space experience preferred
