Job Summary
Conduct installation, repair, and maintenance of landscaping and grounds at USU Housing facilities. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment, including checking fluid levels, sharpening blades, and repairing machinery. Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes and skid steers, as well as snow removal equipment. Plant and maintain trees, shrubs, and flower beds while managing irrigation systems and adjusting sprinkler clocks. Diagnose plant conditions and recommend treatments for pests or diseases using knowledge of fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides. Work outdoors in all seasons, adhering to safety procedures and handling loads up to 25 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- Two years of experience or an associate degree/technical training in a related field
- Must be punctual to work
- Must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position, including lifting up to 25 pounds
- Must be prepared to assume uncomfortable positions such as crawling, kneeling, and squatting
- Must be able to operate heavy machinery during all seasons of the year
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in performing routine manual labor
- Knowledge of plant materials and their cultural requirements
- Knowledge of fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides used in grounds care and gardening
- Knowledge of irrigation systems including adjusting clocks, repairing broken lines, wiring and sprinklers
- Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and customers
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
- Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities
- Knowledge of applicable safety procedures
- Ability to diagnose plant conditions and cultural needs and recommend treatment for problems
- Knowledge of pesticides

- Knowledge of soil types, slope and drainage
