Landscape Plans Examiner

Job Summary
Review construction plans for compliance with landscape and tree preservation ordinances, and inspect sites to enforce maintenance of relevant codes. Investigate complaints regarding landscaping regulations, coordinate prosecution of violators, and issue permits for tree removal and replacement. Verify contractor licensing, determine tree size and quality, and issue notices of correction or violation. Conduct field visits to resolve code interpretation issues, prepare reports for city leadership, and interpret rules for the City Attorney's Office. Document examination results in computer systems and establish departmental policies and procedures.

- Comprehensive knowledge of current arboricultural and horticultural practices, South Florida trees and other plant species; their morphological and cultural aspects, urban forestry and general horticultural principles (e.g. soil, fertilization, maintenance, etc.) and knowledge of the landscape industry and its procedures
- Bachelor degree in urban forestry or a related field from an accredited college
- three (3) years' practical experience in urban forestry, horticulture, and/or arboriculture
- Certified Arborist
- Landscape Inspector's license/certificate issued by Landscape Inspectors Association of Florida (or other recognized professional association)
- tree trimming license with either Miami-Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach County
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred experience including street tree inventories, tree canopy analysis, and street tree programs and diagnosis of horticultural problems
