Job Summary
Provide technical assistance to Northern villages in land use planning by participating in the development, review, and implementation of local master plans, administrative regulations, and their amendments. Plan and coordinate public consultation sessions while collaborating on strategies for the sustainable development of new expansion areas. Assist in the preparation and analysis of municipal development permits and authorizations, and contribute to various projects related to land use and sustainable planning. Perform any other related tasks as required by the supervisor. This role involves working under the supervision of the Coordinator–Land Use Planning within the Renewable Resources, Environment, Lands and Parks Department, with frequent travel throughout Nunavik.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in urban or regional planning or a related field
- Minimum of two years' relevant work experience (drafting regulations, municipal or regional planning, training municipal officers, etc.)
- Willingness to travel frequently throughout Nunavik
- Work location: Kuujjuaq, Quebec
Desired Qualifications
- Membership in the Ordre professionnel des Urbanistes du Québec
- Experience in a municipal work environment
- Experience in land use planning in a northern or Indigenous community
- Computer skills (Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent ability to express concepts in simple language and to actively listen to needs
- Excellent ability to adapt
- Working knowledge (written and oral) of at least two (2) of the following languages: Inuktitut, French, and English
