Job Summary
Assist with seeding, transplanting, and preparing planting beds, then perform weeding, watering, mulching, pruning, trellising, and pest monitoring to support healthy crop growth. Harvest vegetables, fruits, or herbs according to quality standards, wash, sort, and pack produce for sale or storage. Set up, monitor, and adjust irrigation systems; hand-water crops as needed. Safely operate basic farm tools, assist with routine cleaning and maintenance, and support upkeep of farm structures, fencing, pathways, and storage areas. Help with produce washing, packing, labelling, and organizing. This term position ends September 7th with a possibility of extension. Training is provided for individuals interested in agriculture, sustainability, environmental science, or land-based work.
Required Qualifications
- Interest in agriculture, sustainability, food systems, or outdoor work
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting (20-40 lbs), bending, kneeling, and working in varying weather conditions
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a small team
- Initial and ongoing employment is subject to submission of a clear Criminal Record Check
- Initial and ongoing commitment to the values and guidelines of Sq'éwqel (Seabird Island Band), including our policies, procedures, standards of practice, and laws
