Job Summary
Operate and maintain land management equipment under adverse environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rough terrain. Install and maintain pre-suppression fire lines while ensuring compliance with Silvicultural Best Management Practices during prescribed burning and wildfire suppression activities. Assist with forest projects such as timber marking, cruising, site preparation, and reforestation; conduct wildlife and vegetation surveys, trail maintenance, and boundary maintenance. Coordinate with contractors to ensure contract specification compliance and manage invasive species. Requires a valid Florida Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement, obtainable within six months. Performs fieldwork involving farm tractors, bulldozers, airboats, and ATVs. Located at the Geneva Field Station in Geneva, FL.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- one (1) year of experience in natural resource management
- Must possess a valid Florida Class A CDL with Tanker (N) endorsement
- ability to obtain the required license and endorsement within six (6) months of hire
- Valid State of Florida Driver's License
- Valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Tanker (N) endorsement at the time of hire
- ability to obtain the license and endorsement within six (6) months from the date of hire
- successfully passing a drug screening
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of John Deere 650 bulldozers
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of transport vehicles equipped with air brakes and both manual and automatic transmissions
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of farm tractors and related implements
